Indian Foreign Minister downplays President Xi’s G20 absence, assures continued summit progress

Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar stated that President Xi Jinping’s absence from this week’s G20 summit in New Delhi is not an uncommon occurrence and is unlikely to impact the ongoing negotiations aimed at crafting a consensus communique during the meeting.

Jaishankar emphasized that the summit, scheduled for September 9-10 and gathering leaders from the world’s wealthiest nations, is taking place amid a highly volatile global landscape.

Furthermore, he noted that the G20 is under significant pressure to address some of the world’s most urgent challenges given the elevated expectations surrounding the event. This information was conveyed in an interview with the ANI news agency.
